Thunder Bay RV Resort

There is a little gem of a place located in the middle of nowhere halfway between Alpena and Gaylord in a small town called Hillman, Michigan. The name is Thunder Bay RV Resort.

When we arrived, we were somewhat confused by the lack signs directing us towards the RV park area. A sign pointed towards the registration office, but did not look like a road we could navigate through with our RV. The fact that it was late and dark out didn’t help matters. We went back out the main drive and around the corner because I had visited this place before on a drive through and remembered another way in.

As soon as we pulled into the park the host campers, Larry and Mary came out to meet us. They guided us into our spot as well as taking us to the office to register. They were staying here to help out for the summer and were a truly great asset to this park.

This RV Park is attractive to retirees, professional people, and golfers.  Golfers enjoy the fact that it is situated directly on the Thunder Bay Golf Course. The park was not designed to attract families with small children. It has no play area, game room or pool. The RV’s here need to be self-contained due to the fact there are no bathhouses.

On the other hand if these things are not of concern to you, you will find this park has plenty to offer. The sites all have paved pads (they are even level). There is also a paved patio section adjoining the pads. The patio features a wrought iron table and chairs. Each site offers full hookups including satellite and WiFi. The Wi-Fi signal was even strong. There are dual sewer connections to accommodate the larger RVs. The sites are all well maintained and clean. The employees are all pleasant.

One of the major attractions to the Thunder Bay RV Resort is the Gourmet Dinner Ride. This is a carriage ride through the woods to a cabin. Along the way you are able to view elk which are contained within this resort.

Upon arrival of the cabin you are presented with a 5 course gourmet dinner. The entire meal is prepared on wood stoves and is quite spectacular. The entire event lasted about 4 hours long. If able to attend I would highly recommend it.

Take a moment to check out the photo in our gallery of 2 elk fighting. You can find it here at Enright Image Works. My wife liked the horses.
